Living it up.. In Albania...

So Albania was one of the few countries on the trip I knew nothing about. I couldn't point it out on a map (probably still can't if I'm honest) and it turns out I was waaay off about where I thought it was compared to where it actually is... I knew nothing about its history, its climate, and its traditions. The only thing I knew about it was its flag.. So it's safe to say that I didn't have any expectations, and that was probably a good thing.
When we were driving into Albania Kiki gave us the usual info on its history and weird facts about it, a lot of which I can't actually remember, but it did have a really interesting history! Pretty much all I can remember from this is that most of the houses aren't completed when they're being built, because completed houses get charged tax, so to save money they never finish building their houses...

When we arrived in Tirana we had half an hour until our driving tour, so we found somewhere that had wifi and cold drinks and sat there for a while. It was there that we found out how cheap Albania was! It was less than a euro for water, and something crazy like a pound for a pint...
Now I'm not going to lie, the driving tour might have been interesting, but I wouldn't know because I slept through it.. All I can remember is the guide talking about taxes, politics and that kind of stuff, and also that Mother Teresa was from Albania..

Now when the group talked about Albania later on in the tour, it was usually about the hotel. Because it's so cheap in Albania, we got a hotel upgrade, which meant real beds, amazing showers, white bath robes and air conditioning. It was amazing! We all made the most of the showers, and also the air conditioning, so we all looked a million bucks when we headed down to the restaurant for dinner. A few people went out that night, but I was keen to make the most of having a soft bed and fluffy duvets, and so I was in bed my 9pm....

Soz about the language, but I had just had the first proper shower in over 20 days, so I was extremely happy at how we had a hotel room because it was so cheap!
View from the bedroom window!
The next morning I was a super good daughter and was awake at 5am to Skype home. I thought I had better make the most of having fast wifi and time to talk, so me and Mum had a good catch up about the trip so far, and also about my birthday, as that was the first time I had properly talked to any family since I skyped them before I left London over 20 days before.
That day was a 3-in-1 day, meaning we visited 3 countries. Breakfast was in Albania, and then we drove through to Montenegro for lunch, where we had to rush to eat our food because it took so long to arrive. Montenegro was such a beautiful place, and very popular for wealthy, slightly rotund Russian men apparently... Even though we were only there for a couple of hours, I really liked it there!

We then left Montenegro and drove through to Croatia, but even though this is a short post, it'll have to end here!

Next stop: Dubrovnik (a.k.a Kings Landing for you Game of Thrones fans...)
